Last weekend I was able to getaway to rural North Dakota to see my grandparents and mom’s side of the family. I was originally supposed to go visit with my mother and sister during the Holiday season but was busy with weddings and decided it was best to wait. I hadn’t visited there since I was in high school and I am so happy to have gotten the opportunity to do so. I had the most wonderful time staying at my grandparents house.
I have memories when I was little of playing in this outdoor doll house. It had a tea set and everything!
Recently, my grandparents adopted a small rescue dog. He is the little one in the photos below. They named him Lucky because he was found in a grocery store parking lot and brought into the vet clinic where he was later found by my grandparents. He was the biggest snuggle bug and was my companion all weekend. …Don’t tell Bear though!
While visiting, I was able to spend a lot of time with my aunts, uncles and cousins as well. I attended their high school basketball games and got to eat wayyyy too much food with them during the Super Bowl. Although basketball games and food comas are things I have experienced before, ice fishing was something completely new for me! Unfortunately, we didn’t catch any fish… but I did get to hear the sounds of the ice popping around me which was thrilling to say the least.
Most of you probably do not know that my grandpa was one of eighteen children… and a twin! His mother (my great grandmother) is in the North Dakota State Capitol building. Can you imagine having eighteen children?! Her spot in the Capitol is accompanied by other greats like Phillip Jackson and Theodore Roosevelt.
Before heading back to the airport, we had lunch at JL Beers. Their burgers are amazing and stopping there is a must if you’re ever in the Bismark, ND area.
