Friday Feels

Happy Friday!! I am at home this morning but heading to Champaign this afternoon for my first wedding of 2018! While I loved the time off, I am so excited to be back doing what I love tomorrow at Pear Tree Estate. As some of you may know, John’s birthday was this week. Because of that, this week’s Friday Feels has a bit of a “for John’s birthday” theme to it!

John’s Memory Book.

I started this little leather book for John on his birthday three years ago. Each of the pages is filled with memories, funny moments or places we’ve been together.  Because I hadn’t updated it in two years, I decided to add some pages for his birthday.  What started as a little journal has turned into an oversized explosion of John and I.  It includes our pets, anniversaries, moves, concerts, etc.

Rather than putting it together perfectly, it is made using a pencil, glue stick and scissors. I cut pictures out in funny shapes and just throw them all into each page. Overall, I love that this book is an unpolished peek into our life together and can’t wait to fill up many more books in our future.

This year for Christmas, one of my gifts was Cravings, the cookbook written by Chrissy Teigen. As a huge John Legend fan, I have also come to love his wife and little family.  Over the years, I’ve followed her on social media and have been fascinated by her cooking. I am so excited to finally own a copy of her cookbook and know that it will be a favorite of mine.

As I mentioned earlier, this weeks feels are centered around John’s birthday. John is a big fan of soup… I think he could probably eat it every single day. So for his birthday, I decided to try out Chrissy’s chicken noodle soup. She suggested pairing it with buttered saltines which sounded odd but was so delicious!

Celebrating my favorite at our favorite.

I’ve mentioned Neat Kitchen & Bar before in my blogs so it shouldn’t come as a surprise to you we chose to celebrate John’s birthday there.  John and I love this place and knew it would be perfect to bring his parents to. Because we usually end up there at least once a week, we’ve become pretty good friends with the bartender there.  However, we weren’t expecting him to give John such a nice birthday gift!

Our bartender Pete asked John how old he was going to be. He shared a story of him and his dad and how his dad always gave me a whiskey aged for the same amount as the age he was turning. As he shared his story, he poured John a twenty five year aged whiskey. It was such a nice gesture and one that only made us enjoy Neat Kitchen even more!
