Kappa Delta is an organization and a UIUC home that will always hold a special place for me. I graduated from the University of Illinois in the spring of 2014 but still consider my college friends some of my closest. Although going through recruitment and bid day were overwhelming, I can honestly say that joining Kappa Delta was the best choice I made all through college. I was not only able to make the big UIUC campus smaller, but I was able to do so many other things.
Through KD, I eventually became the March of Dimes Organization President. At the time I joined, a senior in KD was the president and encouraged me to join… three years later I was doing the same for incoming girls. I was also able to meet and become best friends with some of the greatest girls I have ever known. When you join a sorority, it’s not always the “become instant best friends” experience that you think it should be. In fact, it wasn’t until the end of my second semester in the house that I met one of my best friends who happened to be in a class with me. We decided to start studying together… soon enough we were going to dinner before chapter together, going out together, and then eventually living together.
A year after joining Kappa Delta, I lived in the house. This experience is an irreplaceable and indescribable one. I mean think about it… you are living with 50+ girls! It was a crazy year but one I would absolutely never take back. I also went on a Spring Break trip with 10 of my KD classmates. On that Spring Break trip I met my boyfriend and the love of my life. If it wouldn’t have been for the friends that encouraged me or the confidence I gained when joining KD, who knows… I may never have met John.
As you can see, joining Kappa Delta didn’t just mean gaining a bunch of friends… it meant much, much more and will have a lifelong affect on me as it will many of these new members. Congratulations to the pledge class of 2019! I am so excited to see where your journey in Kappa Delta takes you!
