Classic Wedding at Miller Park Pavillon, Kurt & Amy, Bloomington IL

Everyone knows the rhyme, “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue”.  However, many aren’t familiar with the original saying that also included “and a sixpence in her shoe”.  To honor that original rhyme, Amy started her wedding day with a special moment between her and her dad.  Her father walked in shortly after she had finished putting her wedding dress and helped her make the final preparation for her day.  He got down on a knee and placed a 2017 penny in her a left shoe.  The penny was a little sentiment of good luck and a special token Amy will always remember from her dad.

To continue with the classic wedding rhyme, Amy also incorporated something old and borrowed from her late Aunt. Within her bridal bouquet, several brooches.  They were all different designs and colors and added just the right of sparkle to her flowers.  Amy wore sparkly gold converses under her wedding dress to add something new to her wedding look.

When we were preparing for Kurt & Amy’s first look, I asked Kurt if he was nervous.  His response I assumed would either be yes or no but instead he said something I will never forget.  He said, something along the lines of,  “No I’m not nervous. People put so much emphasis on weddings and really it’s just a day! I’m not going to put anymore pressure on myself than is necessary… to be honest, I’m just excited.” I knew as soon as Kurt said that that their wedding day would be absolutely wonderful and that they were going to have an incredible future together.

In addition to Kurt’s meaningful response to my question, the best man’s speech also really resonated with me.  When talking about Kurt, his best man Brandon mentioned how Kurt takes a very long time to make important decisions.  He creates spreadsheets, pros/cons lists, etc.  So when it came down to marry Amy, Brandon assumed the wedding would take years to plan.  Shortly after Kurt had proposed (click here to see their engagement photos), Brandon made a joke asking how the planning was coming along, completely expecting to hear that they were still a long ways out.  To his surprise, Kurt responded that all of the big things were determined and that they were officially getting married within that year.  To end his speech, Brandon concluded by stating that even for people who struggle with big tasks like Kurt, things that are meant to be are easy decisions.

Exactly two years after their first date, Kurt and Amy became husband and wife.  They are such a caring couple and I have enjoyed working with them so much.  I know that they will have an incredible life together and I am so happy that I was able to document the official start to it.
