Weddings are about tradition. Traditions like the father of the bride walking his daughter down the aisle or the bride and groom cutting the cake. Scott and Meredith’s wedding incorporated many typical wedding traditions but also so many more. Meredith comes from a family of seven. She’s the middle child, two older sisters and two younger twin brothers. Of the girls, Meredith was the last to get married. Although each of the girls had their own elements to their weddings, there were several traditions that spread throughout each wedding.
For starters, there is a necklace. This heart shaped necklace was given to Meredith’s grandmother on the day that her father was born. The necklace was passed down to Meredith’s father, Mike, when he told his parents that he had found the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. The center stone of the necklace is now on Meredith’s mother, Anne’s, hand as her wedding diamond. The remaining heart of the necklace was worn on Mike and Anne’s wedding day and then also each of Meredith’s older sister’s special days. As you can imagine, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room as Meredith’s mother placed the necklace on her.
The second tradition was waiting to see one another until their wedding ceremony. As Meredith’s father walked her down the aisle, I saw the tears welling up in Scott’s eyes. After attending the University of Illinois together, making it through a year of long distance, moving away from family and friends together… today was the day Meredith was finally going to be his wife. While Meredith’s father gave her a warm hug at the front of the aisle, Scott smiled as happy tears rolled down his cheek.
Following their beautiful ceremony, Scott and Meredith celebrated their official marriage with a wedding reception at Windows on Washington. Along with the other wedding traditions in her family, the reception DJ had been a part of both of her sister’s weddings. I loved that it was clear he had built a relationship with the Mueller’s and how invested he was in celebrating Scott and Meredith’s marriage. During the anniversary dance, he also made shout outs to each of the other sister’s and their wedding dates. What was also special about the anniversary dance was that the winning couple was Scott’s grandparents. They were swaying and spinning as they celebrated 60 and a half years of marriage together. It was one of the moments that everyone in the room had goosebumps.
Scott and Meredith’s wedding day was special for many reasons. I loved being a part of it and seeing two families so filled with love. Congratulations Scott and Meredith, you two are such a beautiful couple and I couldn’t be happier for you both.
