This year for Thanksgiving, my family switched things up and spent a couple of days in Nashville, TN. For many years, we have been alternating between houses and having traditional Thanksgivings. However, it has been a very long time since my dad’s entire extended side has all celebrated together.
My Aunt Jennifer planned our Thanksgiving gathering this year in Nashville. My Papa Lowry and all of his four children & their spouses along with all of us grandchildren (for the most part!) made the trip. Family from Wisconsin, Texas, Indiana, Tennessee and Illinois were present. We enjoyed a Thanksgiving meal in the hotel lobby and went to see Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in the afternoon. The day after Thanksgiving, we rode a bus around the city with Bobby Green as he showed us sites like Johnny and June’s grave and Vanderbilt’s campus. That evening, we attended the Grand Ole Opry at the Ryman Auditorium and had a great time hearing all of the talented musicians.
My grandmother who passed away this fall would have been grinning ear to ear the entire weekend to see everyone together. She was greatly missed but was not forgotten as we all shared different memories throughout our time together. One of my favorites had to have been when she went into the restroom in the airport and couldn’t get over that the “women’s restroom” had urinals… I didn’t have the heart to tell her she just went into the men on accident!
Prior to heading to Nashville, I had an engagement session in Lexington, KY which gave me the opportunity to hang with my sister for a couple of days. I even got to tailgate for the UK Wildcats!
